In an earlier thread https://terrylove.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-29151.html I learned that my Bemis seat was installed incorrectly, using the plastic bolts supplied with the seat, rather than the proper Toto plugs If I remove the bolts from above, the nuts will fall inside the skirt. Is there any potential harm in that, or can I just "let the nuts fall where they may?". I will install the new seat with the proper TOTO anchors, of course.

There is nothing it could hurt. But you may have a problem removing the existing bolts with no way to hold back on the nut. You may be able to loosen them enough to be able to cut them off and let the remainder drop. They'll be waiting for you when you some day have to pull the toilet.

Thanks. By lifting up the seat as I loosen the bolts, they seem to hold by friction underneath. Good
suggestion to cut them if I can only get part
way.

If you needed to get underneath, it's a simple matter of;

Turn off and disconnect water supply,

Aquia, remove the two side screws and lift off.

Other skirted bowls, remove the velcro'ed panels, remove the nuts and washers and lift off.
