Special Flux for silver solder?

Hi Folks,

I bought some Canfields watersafe silver solder is there a special flux required to silver solder copper pipe or am I good to go with Nokorode regular paste flux?

Typically the type of Nokorode flux that I have seen and used is made for soft soldering.

You should use a flux made for brazing and Hard soldering. The temperature range is much higher, and the chemical make up is much different.

I think the op is just referring to silver-containing soft solders, in which case nokorode is OK>

You may already has the correct answer, but if you are still at all in doubt, contact a music instrument repairman. They use silver solder on brass instruments and certainly will know the proper flux to use and can probably help you find what you need.

If it is a soft silver bearing solder then all flux dsigned for soft soldering will work. Silver solder which melts at teperatures above 800 degrees and comes in a stick not a roll does not need flux applied before using because it is self fluxing. Nor does the oxidation need to be removed from the pipe.

For the Canfield's 100% WATERSAFEÂ® Solder

The Manufacture recommends;

Fluxes: For copper pipe use Canfield's COPPER-MATEÂ® Self-Cleaning Soldering Paste Flux.

With a Temperature Range - 418 Â° - 440Â° The Paste that You have should work just fine.

Of coarse the Manufacture is going to recommend their brand, But NOKORODEÂ® Regular Paste Flux should work just as good.
