Is the Tub Steel or Cast Iron?

How can you tell?

Tap it. A cast iron tub will sound a lot thicker than a steel one. A steel tub will "ring" like you were hitting a sauce pan.

I tapped it and wasn't sure. I hit it with the sledge and it didn't break. I dropped it off of a third story deck and it broke. It was cast iron.
Didn't hit it hard enough!

Well, you did not say you had removed it, otherwise I would have told you that if YOU can lift it, it was steel. If it took two or more people to lift it, it was cast iron.
