HELP....Starting from Scratch ... found 6" Well in yard

Discovered CI well in yard. It's 125' deep ... water starts @ 75' . Thinking of just using for yard irrigation. What's the easiest/simplest approach. I was thinking deep submersible pump to 3/4" flex line direct to sprinklers. Is this even doable? Recommendations ... PLEASE
 
Just because you have 50 feet of water in the well, doesn’t mean it will make enough to run a sprinkler. Of course you won’t know until you try. Use a ½ HP, 10 or 7 GPM pump, set at 120’. A ball valve on the discharge pipe will let you vary the flow out of the system. Try running wide open and see if it holds up. If not shut the ball valve back to 5 GPM and see how long it will run. You have to find out if water will come into the well fast enough to do what you want. The well may only make 1 or 2 GPM for long term. Or it may not make any. You just have to run it to see.
 
What's the GPM requirement for the sprinklers? The pump should be matched to the GPM draw so as not to cycle on and off too much. Alternately you could use a CycleStopValve. You won't know how many GPM the well can produce until you drop in a pump and test it.

Ja, low tech could work too. Still, not sure I'd want to drop in a 25 GPM pump only to find out the well can only produce 1 or 2 and have to choke it back.

I would put water into the well and make sure it will take water first.

Before spending a bunch of money, to find that it has been sealed with concrete in the bottom of the casing.

Do you agree with using 3/4" pipe is a good approach ... any recommendations where to buy pump?
 
Any thoughts on 120V versus 240 v pump? I'm thinking 2-wire 120v...
 
You're putting the cart in front of the horse. The size of pipe depends on the GPM. IMHO, 240V is always better than 120V and lets you use smaller wire.
 
I think 7-10 GPM should be sufficient.

If a pump's rating is 10GPM ... I guess it's based on 1 1/4 pipe ... so if I go with 3/4" I'll only get about 3 GPM ... right?

LLigetfa is correct as to using a higher voltage.

But it is best to use the manufactures recommendation on the Pipe size Or output is not guaranteed.

Go bigger and throttle it back as Valveman suggested.

That is if your well has any flow of usable water.

There is usually a reason for a well to be capped.

Just finished your recommendation. It filled to the top. Does this mean it's probably a dry hole? Can anything be done to rejunivate it ...? redrill it?

If it is not going down, That may mean a plugged Hole.
 
Find out who drilled the well and why it was capped.

If you have the money then you could drill a new well.

The well may have been capped for a reason.

Drilling a new well may cost a bit of money.

But that may be a plan B.
