A drain/venting issue I'm facing could be solved if I simply raised the floor of (just) the shower stall ~2.5" so I could run the drain on top of and perpendicular to the joists. Is there a code controlled relationship between the height of the shower floor and its adjacent bathroom floor? Another words, is there a point at which the step-up into the shower becomes a hazard?

Hi John,

Most tile shower floors consume 2 inches minimum. Add to that the height of the curb (3 inches above shower floor on inside), and you've got about eight inches you have to step over to get in the shower. I don't think this is a code violation, but it's a healthy step up. :)
