I'VE MOVED THIS TO THE "General Plumbing Forum" FOR GREATER VISIBILITY

I'm rearranging a laundry room configuration and don't want to move a gas line fitting. CA Title 24, Part 5 requires an appliance gas shutoff valve be "accessible":

1212.5 Appliance Shutoff Valves and Connections. Gas utilization appliance connected to a piping system shall have an accessible, approved manual shutoff valve with a nondisplaceable valve member, or a listed gas convenience outlet installed within six (6) feet (1.8 m) of the appliance it serves. ...

What does accessible mean? Can the shutoff valve be adjacent next to the dryer (12"), but located within a sink cabinet where one can access it by opening the cabinet door?

I am not a plumber, but I just reviewed some simple code rules for this when I added a new line and valve to my stove. Basically, you cant have it hidden within a wall, so in your case behind a door is still accessable by definition. Wait for some pro's to back that up though...
