Unlacquered brass

"bits of verdigris" within a year or two? This does not sound particularly attracive. When you do normal cleaning, even just wiping down with damp cloth, how does this affect the aging process? Does soap or toothpase or hairspray cause funny blotches?

I just think you are looking at a 50 year process.

Clean your brass and your copper!

If you aren't comfortable with just swapping out the valve when it has a problem you might want to search on line for parts for the faucet you are considering before you buy it. The more sources there are the better.

Fifty-year process? I am sixty-three. This does not augur well.
