Hi,

I found a yellow plug in the toilet bowl the other day, and since then it hasn't flushed the same. It is about the diameter of a nickel.

You have to hold the flush lever longer and it seems the toilet has less "flushing power" now. I am working on getting pictures now.... Any ideas on what it is and how to repair it? OR where it comes from?

I've had the top of the tank off and can't find where it comes from...

Your toilet is more than likely a 1.6 GPF toilet and the yellow plug part of the "timer" for the flapper controlling how long the flapper stays open.
Without the plug on the bottom of the flapper it is closing too early with a weak flush.

If that fell out I'm pretty sure the flapper is shot.

By flapper, you mean the gate connected to the chain that opens when I hit the flush lever?

That's it. It is cone-shaped and drops into the pipe that leads to the toilet bowl. These have to be replace occasionally as they do wear out. Cheap and easy fix.
