I like to use wax rings that have the plastic funnel/flange/bell built into them. Seem to provide a more straightforward installation.

Will using one of these compromise the flushing power of a Toto toilet? -which I plan on buying soon

Do not use wax rings with bell flanges. They frequently cause problems and are totally unnecessary.

arent there Totos with 3" trapways??

No.
Toto makes toilets with 3" flush valves.
That's the part that the flapper attaches to, and goes between tank and bowl.

The only toilet with a 3" trapway is made in Australia by Caroma.
They can't use a siphon on the flush, the trap is too large.
They need to use a "wash down" flush.

A trap larger then 2-1/8" is very hard to siphon.
That's why the Caroma uses washdown.

Toto Drake with siphon jet flush.
The flush valve from the tank to the bowl is 3"
The outlet of the trap is 2-1/8"

Terry - your explanation really helps. The siphon jet design explains why I have noticed my Toto Ultramax II seems to "suck" waste out of the bowl, like a commercial airplane's toilet, rather than "push" it down like a washdown toilet. I never realized that difference before.

The Toto 3" flush valve/2 1/8" trap design works GREAT. Can handle just about anything a human can produce without hiccuping.
