My pump is used to run water from my catchment tank to the house. I awoke the other day to the sound of a running pump when no water was being drawn for use. Indeed, no water could be drawn from any faucet. Checking revealed the catchment tank to have gone dry, leaving the pump with only air. After filling the catchment tank, I plugged the pump back in and it immediately began to pump--nothing. The pressure gauge barely moved. I called home despot to be told I needed to prime it, something I had never been told to do in the past on the 2 occasions this had happened before. But I tried by following the instructions to remove the pressure gauge to fill the opening with water so that enough water was present to prime the pump. Opening the line however produced a two foot geyser from that line and after several minutes futilely waiting for the geyser to end so I could prime, I gave up, put the pressure gauge back in, tried several other possibilities. Could something have broken? Might it in fact be self-priming? Help if you can. However, the longer I go without water, the more I and, I imagine, those in proximity to me are thinking: the sooner the better. . .:o thanx
