I purchased a rental property with a well water system. The well has a submersible pump. I went in the crawl space to check the holding tank and there was none, just a straight line to the entire water system. I did not want to try the pump until I install a tank and a pressure switch. I removed the well casing cover and found a pressure switch about 5' down. My question is this an acceptable practice or should I pull the pump up remove the switch and install a new tank and switch.

The tank is probably burried beside the well somwhere. If it's all working, I would leave it alone.

The tank could be in the well or buried. I agree with Peter; If it ain't broke leave it alone.
Save your pennies for a future overhaul of the system.

Wow, you guys love to be punished! A well in a crawl space with the pressure switch 5' deep in a pit, and maybe a buried rotten well tank somewhere in the dirt. Reminds me why I left Wisconsin. Maybe you could just move to Florida and forget the whole thing.

thanks guys

Thank you for your replies. I don't want to move to Florida, so thats out. MaybeI can wait for the weather to get better before I try it out. I'm sure that I will have more ?
