Hi all,

New bathroom remodel job completed a few weeks ago. Shower stall gutted, reframes, new pipes, shower floor and new tile. Had two shower heads installed and all was good until we noticed a stain on the roof of our kitched. Called in contractor, opened the cieling and sure enough, we had a leak. He re-grouted and re-sealed, still had the problem. He said it was the pan, may have a crack. He proposes putting a liner over existing tile and re-tiling. Will this work?

Thanks in advance

Grout and sealer have absolutely nothing to do with a leak into the ceiling below. Something else is seriously wrong, and adding a new pan over top of that makes no sense.

Is the shower pan tiled? Is it a preformed one? There are all sorts of ways for a pan to fail. A good source for help on a tiled shower is www.johnbridge.com.

It could be so many things...
  • nails in the liner
  • hole in the liner
  • improper curb liner
  • leak at the clamping drain
  • the liner not high enough
  • improper application of the corners
  • poor glue joint if the shower is big and they had to use two pieces to cover the pan
  • and many more...
