constant water from discharge

I have an older Culligan system. Water from discharge runs constantly, causing a puddle in my yard where it has been piped. Should it run all the time? If not what may be causing the problem

Or the piston is 'bad' or, the softener is stuck in a regeneration.

Until you find out what is causing this, put it in bypass.
