Shared Well

I am on a shared well with four other families. We were the last addition to the well. We have our own Pressure Tank, however our water pressure is not good, unless we remove our water filter. we have to change our filter every 4-6 weeks and even when the filter is new the pressure is not great. The other houses on the well don't need to change their filter nearly as often and have not problems running two sprinklers at once when everyone else in the neighborhood is home and we can't even get one to barely turn when no one is home. If we have our own pressure tank why would we have any problems at all? Is there usually a filter that is placed at the main site of the well that is perhaps defective on our line that we have such excess in our filter. Any suggestions on correcting our problem is appreciated.

Water volume and pressure come from the pump, not the pressure tank. Are you higher in elevation than the other houses? How long and what size water line goes to your house? Distance, pipe size, and elevation is your problem.

yes, we are furthest away from the well and there is a slight grade. I was hoping there was a quick fix, like a larger pump or somthing. thanks.

A larger pump will be needed if the combined usage is more than the pump can supply. However, you may be able to just turn the pressure up on the system you have now. If it is running at 40/60, just turn it up to 50/70. This will only help with normal usage. Turn on too much water and it won’t be able to stay at that pressure unless you have a larger pump. The other houses will just have even better pressure than they have now.

Next step would be a booster pump for your house. Boosting right off the water line may pull down the neighbors pressure. Then you would need a storage tank or cistern, so you could fill it slowly, and boost out as much water as needed, when needed.
