sandpoint question

I drove a 1-1/4 sandpoint well, so far I am down in the ground about 19' with about 1' of pipe sticking out of the ground. I have a 5' drive point in the ground.

This morning I put a stick attached to a string down the pipe to see how much water I was sitting in, the stick showed about 2'4" of water, is that enough or do I need to go down further? I was told the water table is about 15' in my area. During very rainy springs my parents who live about 3 blocks away get seeping of ground water through their basement floor, so that tells me their water level is not much over 7-8' at times.

The instructions I found online through an extension service said not to go any further when a gallon of water disapates into the pipe in less than two minutes. That was taking place prior to my last 3' section of pipe, but I wasn't seeing more than a few inches of water on a string dropped into the line.

Another question I have is, is there a way to repair the the threads on the end of the pipe? The end sticking out of the ground has pretty mangled threads. Had a neighbor come help drive the last section and we were using the sledge hammer method, which I now see isn't recommended, and he started wacking away at it!!!! Previous to that, I was just using short solid blows and everything was moving nicely. I sure hope he didn't damage any couplers further down....

If I don't have to go any further, I planned on using a rubber coupler to connect the pump. This was my original thought as the pump I am re-using was connected this way at another time.

****edit**** I started wondering if maybe the stick I put down the pipe was possibly floating, so while at home over lunch, I measured the stick and line and again dropped the stick down my pipe. This time the stick came back with 2'8" of water on it and about 3' of string was left outside of the pipe, so I am now guesstimating that I am at about 5-6' deep in the water table.

My only concern at this point is the "mushroomed" head on the last pipe I put down the well. All other connections should be good as I kept tightening as I drove the pipe and when I give the last section of pipe a twist with the pipe wrench, it feels solid. By that I mean while I was driving the pipes I could feel the pipes tighten as I twisted them back tight and they still feel this way. I figure I'll hook the pump up and check pressures, etc before sealing off the area around the pipe, if something seems loose and I suspect a leak, I'll try to use my 7000lb hydraulic floor jack to pull the pipe back out. I think it would come out fairly easily...

The pump I am hoping to use, if it still works is a Red Jacket Quick Set Jet pump. I am told that is a very good pump, is that true? It came out of my brother past house.

The pump is rated at 3/4hp and can be wired in 115 or 230 volt. It's currently setup for 115, will I notice much difference if I stay this route or is 230 better? Before I realized I could wire it at 230, I ran 12/2 wire, but haven't installed the receptacle or the switch and can easily change out the wiring if need be.

Thanks for any direction on this project as this is my first time at actually driving a well and setting one up, but I've had input from others who've done it before and my previous house had a sandpoint, which I loved....
