cooktop and wooden bar top

I am working on kitchen remodeling. There’s gas cooktop, 7†tiled backsplash behind and wooden top. The wooden top will 1/2†overlap tiles above the cooktop.
The question is:
Is it safe to have a wooden top 7†from cooktop? The cooktop was bought without paperwork, no instructions there.

Usually 6" is the specified distance, but it would depend on the placement of the burners in the cooktop. Use an Internet search to find the manual for it.
