With these new Chinese made outdoor frost-free water spigots, the ones attached to your house, how do you get them not to leak at the handle when you have a twenty-five foot hose and spray nozzle connected to them when washing the car on a saturday afternoon? The driveway is slightly higher than the spigot. Everythings tightened down. It never leaks otherwise. This is my second one.

Any chance the hose was left connected during the winter? If so the pipe did not drain, froze, and split. It would still shut off.

No, just replaced this week. Kept the valve isolated in basement till I washed the car.

Tighten the packing nut slightly behind the handle.

Easy-Japaneezy!

Already did this, thanks for asking. Any other ideas? Poor design? Back pressure from Hose? Remember, this is my second one. It only has a rubber gasket in it. Should I replace with graphite?

A lot of the plumbers like Woodford for frost free faucets

Gotta love plumbing on a Saturday afternoon after the supply house closes...

I know many shops that will not work on the weekends just for that reason. Myself if I do not have the part, I will figure out a way to get them by till Monday. Like a sillcock, I will cut out the old one and cap the line so the water in the home can be restored. Yes there may be a few things that can not wait until a Monday, in them cases there is a plumbing supply about a half hour drive away that will open the doors for you at the cost of $75 which is very handy for the weekend specialty water heater.

I have at least one of each common size water heater so I do not have to pay the $75.00, but now that you mention it, maybe I should charge the customer it anyway. We would have to see a picture of the hose faucet and where it is leaking to advise you.

Oh we do carry one standard Gas 50 Gal and one standard 40 Gal heater just in case. But anything else, like power vent, direct vent, under the counter, and any other oddball they have to pay the $75.00 or wait. With money getting tight these days keeping stock sitting around is costing us the few pennies of interest we would be earning if that money was in the bank instead.

I really cannot rely on supply houses anymore. Starting at 7:30, off at 4:30, no saturdays anymore....

Do you really think that's how plumbing really is, that it breaks within a 44 hour work week? It doesn't.

I either inventory or upgrade, has to be upgrade most times for the guarantee of the workmanship. I can't really give much to a customer on a 40 year old outside faucet rebuild when I can find the seat washer (common) and cannot find the packing. Of course, string packing will work but that loose feeling turn till it seals off isn't what's going to stop leaking through the packing nut, or a handle with the webbing broke and cannot get the steel screw out. Why did they use the steel screw? So someone has to buy another one. (faucet)

Yes, 1/4 turn but no orange box. I called the manufacturer and they say they've had problems with the one's made in China, too. They told me to go back to the hardware store and replace it with the internals of the one they have that was made in Tiwain. Well, the hardware store didn't have it, so I called them back again and they told me to add graphite string to the one I already have. I haven't done this yet because we're having a cold snap out west here and I won't be washing the car in the driveway for the time being. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for your input, were having some cool weather that's returned here in the Rockies, so when I feel like going outside and washing the car in my driveway again, I'll look into some of your ideas.
