Finding a toilet for 14" rough-in

I need a toilet to fit a 14" rough-in. I noticed when looking online at the toilets offered at the large do-it-yourself stores that all of them are 12". Do you have a recommendation for a mid-range toilet that needs a 14" rough-in?

Not necessarily a recommendation but Kohler offers the k-3433 and k-3438 wellworth model,round or elongated bowl.Probably a special order at the box stores but a Kohler stocking distributor might have a white one.

Kohler doens't really make a 14"
The use the 12" bowl, sitting 2" farther into the room, and sell you a big fat tank.
The only manufacurer that is pulling the bowl back, is made by Toto, the ones that use a Unifit adapter.
So unless you are trying to pull the bowl back, you might as well install the 12"


Toto Vespin II CST474CEFG with SS114 Softclose seat.
This bowl was installed on a 13-1/2" rough-in using the 14" Unifit adapter.
The water shutoff can be as close as 5-1/2" to the left of center, unless it's higher off the floor, and then it can be even closer to center.
This shutoff had been replaced with a new 1/4 turn valve with brass nipple through the wall.

In some of the older Seattle homes, the old toilets had been wall mounted tank toilets.
Those typically are 14" rough-in and need a flange repair to use standard closet bolt connections at the flange.
Everything is on the truck for that.
The Vespin comes with a standard 12" adapter or you can order a 10" or 14" adapter depending on your rough-in distance.

I would avoid the Big Box Store toilets. The price is tempting, but these are the things builder put in to their spec houses that homeowners later have to replace because of poor performance. Kohler toilets are not generally considered as a good choice. I'd recommend a Toto with the Unifit adapter. You will spend more money for this, but your toilet will fit, look good, and will be one of the best quality toilets on the market.

Here is something I learned long ago about water closets. There is different grades just like eggs. Grade A is a flawless water closet, Grade B there is some imperfections that may effect the way the water closet works but nothing visual, and Grade C water closets where there is something major wrong with the casting,, like if the bowl has a weird twist to it, mainly something that can be seen with the plan eye. All plumbing supplies sell Grade A water closets, where the big box stores water closets are Grade B, hence them always being so cheap compared to what a plumber gets them at.

I have a Toto Vespin (2-piece) and a carlyle (one-piece) in my home. I prefer the skirted look and it is easy to keep clean - no little nooks and crannies - the base is one smooth curve. Two-piece toilets tend to be less expensive than one-piece.
