Low water pressure

We just moved into a house that was built in 1999. Had a pipe off the preassure tank to the barn blow out a 90o elbow. Fixed the 90o but have low water pressure in the house. I took a reading of a hose off the pressure tank and it reads 11 lbs. psi. The hose by the house reads 11 lbs. psi. The submersable pump gauge reads 28 - 40 lbs. psi. and the pump booster gauge reads 60 - 80 lbs. psi. We also have a areator that seems to be working correctly. Do I add compressed air to both pressure tanks or what? Thanks for the help in advance.

If you have an aerator, you have two pumps. The one that fills the aerator, that one being the submersible and a jet pump to pressurize the tank for the house pressure. If the submersible is only making 11 psi, you either have a bad leak somewhere or the pumps impeller stack is nuked.

The jet pump is independant of the submersible and will work fine as long as their is water in the aerator. I'm not sure what operates the sub, a pressure switch and tank or some sort of level controller, but if you nuked the impellers you have a serious problem with that control.

Bob, thanks for the info. When you say that " I nuked the impeller" is that the impeller on the jet pump that sends water to the house or the sub? Is it possible that the jet pump or the sub got nuked due to the fact that the 90o that blew nuked the impeller?
 
I assume you have pressure in the house, if so you didn't nuke the jet pump. If the sub only reads I think it was 11 pounds, there is definately something wrong with either the pump or the gauge.

Check and see if it is just running all the time. If it can't shut off the gauge is probably right.

Very low pressure in the house, 11 psi at a hose by the back door. Could the gauge be wrong on the jet pump that reads 60 and shuts off at 80. There is on the jet pump, at the electrical connection, a Square D grey box. Is this the control you were speaking of?

It seems that the gauge on the jet pump, reading 60 - 80 psi, to be high or is that range ok? or is it possible that this gauge is not reading correct? and the Square D control needs to be replaced or adjusted?
 
Only one valve and that went to the barn. Sub pump to spray aerator, line from aerator to jet pump. Jet pump t's off to two seperate pressure tanks, line to house gray pressure tank and barn blue pressure tank. I think...
 
I misunderstood which pump was not working.

I guess the submersible is working ok Right?

Your gauge on the jet pump must be bad. I doubt any jet pump is going to make 80 psi. Is it possible that pump lost it's prime when the elbow broke?

That 11 psi at a hose has to be fed by the jet pump right?

The jet pump may have some stuff off the bottom of the aerator tank blocking its jet. I suspect the submersible pump came on when the jet couldn't keep up with the elbow blown off and that stired up any sediment in the aerator tank and it got into the jet. Or through the jet pump and is caught in a valve maybe?

Bob: Thanks, the sub is working, correct. I will try to get a new gauge. It is possible that the pump lost is prime when the 90 broke. How do I reprime it?
 
Simply fill it with water, put the plug back in loosly and turn on the pump. It should take off in a few second/minutes. When the bubbles stop and the water squirts you in the face, tighten the plug.

Gary: correct the hose is fed by the jet pump that goes to not only the house but also the barn. How would I clear the clog if it is the sediment issue? :D

Yeah I'de say we're close. I live in Beautiful downtown Balm. But it's called Riverview because Balm doesn't deliver mail yet.

We have a much better system if your interested. It does away with the aerator and the extra pump alltogether. This keeps the water under pressure while still removing the sulphur odor. It's a lot more sanitary.

We also do service calls if you don't have any luck.
