Methane Gas in Well Water

I just built a new house and run off of well water. The water spurts due to methane gas in the water. The well driller is proposing an aeration tank (Ram-Jet) for about $2500. I have seen some simpler solutions involving an air release valve. I am going to try this first for the $30 in parts and see what happens. I have also looked into the Well Mate HP series water tanks that release dissolved gases from the water. Does anyone have any experience with these units? Do they work well with a methane problem? Any other options that I should look into.

Sometimes just a plain galv tank with and Air Volume Control will work, instead of a bladder tank. Just have to be careful where you put it, because the AVC will be releasing the gas. The Well-Mate tank does about the same thing but, has a good connection for venting the gas away from the area. Too bad you can't collect the gas and heat your home with it.

You really should do iron and manganese tests first because aeration will oxidize them and make the water dirty so other equipment to treat your methane may be a much better choice. Methane is flammable and explosive. So what and how you use whatever to remove it is critical. I have treated methane so bad it shook pipes and threw a flame out a faucet 6-12" long. Depending on how much you have, and with a new well, you can end up with more than you have now, it is a serious problem.

I like a aeration system made for radon and methane remove that has either a submersible pump in the tank or a jet pump outside the tank. The well pump pumps water into the tank through 5 spray heads for proper aeration. The things you are talking about may not get it all out.
