Hello! It looks like we may need to replace our submersible sump pump or, at the minimum, take it apart a bit to look for debris, etc.

I've spent much of the evening learning online about sump pumps and feel a bit more prepared to start taking things apart. However, our set-up has something that I haven't seen mentioned and I'm hoping to learn what it is and what its function is. Without being able to post a photo, I'll do my best to describe it. Please bear with me!

The vertical riser from our pump is PVC and a few feet above the basin there's a T in it. The riser continues vertically to discharge but coming out perpendicular from the riser are more of the rubber sleeve things with metal clamps. At the end of this section the PVC turns down again and a clear hose (or tube) hangs back into the basin. At the bottom end of the hose is a plastic sort of cap with slits on the bottom. The sticker on it says "VentGuard". Can anyone explain what this part of our set-up is?

I apologize for sounding like an idiot...I'm really not, but I just don't have experience with sump pumps. Ours is very active throughout much of the year so I know it's to my benefit to try to understand it. Thanks in advance for any insight and expertise you can share!

I don't know what the tee'ed off device is (can't imagine). But I can offer some advice on sump pumps. Sump pumps are cheaply made while effluent pumps aren't. The effluent pumps are made to last longer and would be a better choice They will definately outlast a sump pump. I would stay away from big box stores etc if you want quality. And naturally quality means longer life.

bob...
