Rather than install baseboard elements at the floor level, has anyone, due to space constraints, looped elements above one another in sort of an S configuration? The assembled unit would then be boxed in with appropriate vents top and bottom. The possiblity would also exist to add a thermostatically controlled, low cfm fan to the assembly to force more air past the fins.

Convection unit

But it sounds like something that's pretty easy to make...or am I missing something important...something I do with great regularity :(

maybe

The enclosure has to be a tight fit to the elements to insure that the air picks up the maximum btu's as it flows over them. Easy to make, and easy to make correctly, can be two different animals. That is one reason commercial convectors are fairly expensive.
