My well has 35' of steel 6" casing then sandstone down to around 120'. With advice received here I plan on suspending the pump at around 100'. After reading about stuck pumps, with cableguards and torque arresters being possible causes I am wondering how frequent they should be spaced down the well pipe, and whether or not they should continue down past the casing into the sandstone?

If you need cable guards then you are not using tape correctly to connect the wire to the pipe. If you need torque arresters then your pump is cycling on and off too much. Solve these two problems by using tape on the wires correctly, and by using a huge pressure tank or a Cycle Stop Valve to limit the cycling. Then don't put anything extra down the well that can cause you to get hung up on the way out.

In 6" rock wells I think taping every 10' with a 4" cable guard (every 10') in between the tape is the best way to prevent cable damage caused by corkscrew holes. And there is no way to tell if your well corkscrews or not. I've never had a problem dropping or pulling a pump with cable guards. I've found many damaged cable problems with tape only.

I would not use an arrestor or rope of any kind.
