Sanitary napkins and ejector pumps

The host husband and wife of a party I attended yesterday almost had a blowout fight over whether their newly installed basement bathroom can handle women's sanitary napkins.

They have a septic system and they only use septic-safe napkins. The wife's friends all tell her you shouldn't do it. The husband and the contractor say that's an old-wive's tale.

My instinct is to keep the 2" discharge and ejector pump as free of solid material as possible, but are her and my fears founded?

So which is it? Are septic safe sanitary napkins a no-no in an ejector pump?

I have made a lot of money off the subject of this debate!:D

If it is not water, #1, #2, or toilet paper it should not go into an ejector pump system. I have seen ejector pumps cooked to death by sanitary napkins, tampons, and baby wipes being the big 3 killers!

pump

Unless it is a grinder pump, (not likely for a basement bath), which shreds the materials, then anything that will not break down in water can plug the pump.

They are using septic-safe sanitary napkins, though, which are supposed to break down in water. So is anything safe for septic safe for an ejector pump?

Actually- my wife corrected me: it's septic-safe baby wipes. Are THEY ok to flush in a sewage ejector?

no napkins please.......

Tell your wife to use some common sense....
this is not some "female pride" sort of issue here....
you should not throw tampons or heavy duty papaer towells
down in a sewage pump...

I have a 4 year old Zoeller sewage pump
out in my truck tonight......it stinks to high heaven.......

I left the windows open, and I will throw it away tomorrow...

changed it out today because they had a graduation party for a
14 year old girl and her freinds.. this weekend.
and you can guarantee that tampons were thrown into it......

this is something I will not attempt repair for any amount of money....

so they are now the proud owners of a new Zoeller sewage pump for $850

..

In all of Zoeller's instructions for our sewage ejector pumps, it specifically states, "NO SANITARY NAPKINS!":o
