Thread: No Coldwater in Shower!

    Default No Coldwater in Shower!

We have a Moen single handle faucet in our shower. When we turn it on no cold water comes out - only hot water. I went to the Moen site and all it recommended was that the tear drop handle faces down and it does. We have been gone from our house for aprox. 6 months and it worked fine before we left.
    Thanks!

Two things come to mind: the tempering valve is stuck, or the inlet screen on the cold side is clogged. There are probably others. This assumes thatth evalve is a pressure-balance one, as has been a code requirment for awhile. Never took one of these apart, so can't help you there.

Don't forget to check the obvious--the cold water shutoff valve--usually located behind your shower access panel.

If that's not it, you'll have to take out the cartridge and see if it's plugged.

    Question Only hot water

I also have a single handle Glacier Bay(Home Depot) tub/shower faucet with only hot water. Originally started to get low water volume during showers. Replaced the cartridge, now good volume is back but getting only hot water. Also have replaced seats and springs.

When faucet is turned on to trickle can feel cold water but opening faucet to get normal volume produces only hot water. Could new cartridge be bad??? Any other ideas for getting back cold water?

    Thanks for any help...

On your Moen, if it is the type which you do NOT pull out to turn on, then it is a PosiTemp, and there is a balancing spool inside the cartridge. These can get stuck, and cause your problem. You can take it apart and grease it up, or just replace the whole cartridge.

Also, if your shower says MOENTROL that is a pull-out type, and has a separate balancing spool located behind the chrome trim escutcheon.
