Best Sump Pump

I need to replace a submersible sump pump. I know I need to check the GPM of the old pump and get one with similar capacity. But I'm wondering what brand, model, etc. would be best. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply Bob. I'll keep Gould in mind. Since I first asked about this I found that Lowes and Home Depot have Flotec, Wayne, and Water Ace. Anyone had experience with these?

they are all junk

The ones from Lowes are junk and not to be trusted.

I have a pic at the bottom of this web page showing

a 4 month old Wayne sump pump that failed and flooded

out someone, (it cost $65.00)

the best one you can install is a Zoeller like in the same picture

with the wayne pump.....its the ABSOULTE best way to go.

Get one without a switch then add your own verticle switch on the

pipe.... the actual Zoeller pump will run forever ...its literally that good....

the only thing that usually fails on any good pump
is the SWITCH........

So might have to change the switch every 10 years...

but that would be very easy to do

average cost for this set up is about $135.00

Thanks for the info Mark. I looked and the pictures you attached. They really show the importance of buying a good sump pump.

Just a few questions. What is the reason for the switch on the pipe? Is it easier to replace and check that way or is it more likely to fail if it is submerged?

Also, what kind of switch do I get? Is there one made for this pump or do I have to improvise my own?

te Zoeller pump itself is about the best motor and pump

you can buy.. the only problem with that brand is their

switches are always a problem when they are built into the motor...

MANY pumps are built that way and when they fail you are screwed.

buying the pump only and buying a separate

VERTICALMASTER Switch that goes on the pipe

is the best combination and is very easy to change inthe future..

if you buy any pump whhere the pump and the switch are

integrated into one wire to be plugged into the wall ,

if the switch fails you , you cant get the pump

to come on........and you flood out...

With two wires comming off the pump, the motor plugs into

the back side of the switch , then it all plugs into power....

If this switch were ever to fail you

you can always unplug the switch and then plug the

pump directly into power and keep the pump working

untill the calvary arrives....

I have lived 6 places in the last 10 years that had sump pumps. The one thing I will say get a trash pump or a sewage pump. Thais way you donâ€™t have to keep the filter clean on the pump and it will be able to handle clumps of stuff up to 1/2 â€œ or so.

Thanks for the advice.

I ended up getting a Zoeller M53 which has a float switch mounted on the motor. I looked for the N53 that comes with the type of switch that you recommended but it seems like nobody around here stocks it and I didn't want to wait for a special order. Also the verticle switch needs a minimun amount of tether to operate and I was concerned that I did not have enough room in my sump. The pump I replaced is a Zoeller with a bad float switch. It's a sad looking thing but it still works. I'm going to see if I can get a replacement switch and use this old pump for a backup.

We can get you the new switch part number, just call 1-800-928-7867 ext 6
and tell the them you need a new switch for your old pump. Very easy to replace and that way you will have a good back up pump just in case!

Thanks for the 800 number. I ordered a swithch, gasket, and arm & seal today. These are all the parts I need to repair the pump. But I thought of one other thing. Maybe I should replace the nut and gasket that go around the wire where it enters the motor. Is this something I could get locally at an electrical supply house or do I have to get it from Zoeller?

You would be better off getting that from Zoeller since we have a special locking feature for the cord.

Hey Zoellerpump,

Are you affilliated with Zoellerpump directly? If so, I called them the other day. I was interested in trying to sell their Sump and Sewage pumps. They said the rep for my area was on vacation but would call in a week. It's been three. Do they sell so many pumps that they don't need any more suppliers?

Terry, I am not sure how this actually works out since I am in the Technical depatment. What you would have to do is talk to our customer service at 1-800-928-7867 ext 5 and ask them how that would work or even call your area REP, if you do not know who that is, ask customer service when you call them.
