Drainage for the washer is continually overflowing...

Howdy!! New to this forum and I am excited about getting advice. My first problem is this:


When we run the washing machine, we have to stop it during two cycles because water will start overflowing the drain pipe. It gurggles and seems to be putting out more water than the pipe (2 inch) can handle. We've tried liquid plumber, foaming pipe snake, the real pipe snake (both at the wall and in the yard at the cleaning plug), enzymes to remove sediments, and nothing seems to be working. I feel like it is a venting problem and gasses are getting trapped. If that's it, is there anyway to fix it without major remodeling? I don't even know if it currently has a vent.

Look on the roof, above the washing machine drain, for a vent. Run your auger/snake thru that.

How old is your home?

My 40 yr old house had only a 1 1/2" pipe for the washer, and it was overflowing with the new machines. The solution was to run the hose to a deep laundry sink adjacent to the washing machine. The sink buffered the flow and there is no problem.

You need to be sure that the sink is clear when the washer is used. I put a note on the washing machine to check the sink before starting.
