I have a pressure switch that I bought from Lowe's that is really starting to bug me. It is one with a lever on the side that you can reset or stop a pump with; hated it when I saw it, but it was the only kind I saw wherever I saw pressure switches...so I bought it.
Here lately, we won't have any water, just out of the blue, and the thing will have to be reset, which means you have to hold the lever in the "run" position unti the pump gets up to enough pressure to "hold" the switch to run. Odd, but that's what you have to do.
Is this common?

What you have is a pressure switch with a low pressure dropout. The low pressure dropout is a safety feature, built in, that shuts the pump off should you rupture a line for instance.
Most of these are set to stop the pump when the pressure drops to about 20 psi. If your pressure switch is set to allow the pressure to drop that low before the pump cuts in, it will drop out.
Set your pressure switch to operate at 30/50, with the tank precharge set at 28 psi, and you'll not have any more trouble.

Thanks, Ron. The thing has run fine for a few months previously, with only one episode of completely cutting off...we have had a few electrical outtages, and I attributed it to that. I don't know why conditions would have changed to make this happen continually now, but I'll reset things and see how it goes.
I appreciate the information.
