leaking pipe

I am replacing my sink pipes. I bought a u shaped pipe but I can't seem to get it to stop leaking. it can't be tightened anymore. Any advice

You may have overtightened it. A trap should not be much more than handtight. You also may have assembled it incorrectly.

I often have that problem with "off the shelf plastic parts"... I find that using pipe dope or teflon tape to help lube the threads gives me a tighter seal... and no leaks.

on plastic piping use teflon based paste, not an oil based dope. Oil based dope will deteriate the plastic.
