I just bought a house and am doing some major remodeling before I move in. I am doing it all myself. The building inspector said the drain pipe for my washing maching was out of code, something about a vent and a trap. Can anyone help me with this? If so I appreciate it very much.

drain

Not really, because we do not know what the existing washing machine drain looks like and why he turned it down. All we can tell you is that a washing machine drain, or any fixture drain for that matter, requires a trap, and a vent between the trap and the main waste pipe. But there are innumerable ways that requirement can be met, and just as many ways that they can be installed improperly.

804.1 All plumbing fixtures or other receptors
receiving the discharge of indirect waste pipes shall be
approved for the use proposed and shall be of such
shape and capacity as to prevent splashing or flooding
and shall be located where they are readily accessible
for inspection and cleaning. No standpipe receptor for
any clothes washer shall extend more than thirty (30)
inches (762 mm), nor less than eighteen (18) inches
(457 mm) above its trap. No trap for any clothes
washer standpipe receptor shall be installed below the
floor, but shall be roughed in not less than six (6)
inches (152 mm) and not more than eighteen (18)
inches (457 mm) above the floor.

Right now the drain pipe is just a straight pipe into the floor, no vent or trap.

It needs a 2" standpipe with trap which is vented to prevent siphoning.
