We live in a very old house & needed to replace the toilet. While taking out the old one, the flange warped and came off. (It was plastic) I bought a new flange (its a black metal one) but the problem is it won't fit over the drain pipe. There's a lip on that pipe. Is it OK to trim that lip so I can fit the flange over - I just need to take off about 1/16 of an inch around. The drain pipe is PVC & is glued on which I'd rather not have to deal with having to remove/replace it.

thanks for any help

flange

That "lip" is usually what holds the flange on, but from your description I am not sure what you have. If you take the lip off, how will you secure the flange to the pipe?
