Thread: Faucet temp adjustments

    Default Faucet temp adjustments

I have a single handled Moen faucet. Can you tell me if there is a temp adjustment for the faucet. Is it required by various plumbing codes?

All depends on how new the faucet is, maybe in sync with the age of the home. New construction requires the pressure balancing valves for showering/bathing.

Take pics of your faucet, remove the handle and in less than a second someone can tell you if that cartridge is a pressure balanced one or not.

Although, there are some older, oddball 'Moentrol' shower valves that use a 1225 (push-pull) cartridge with a separate pressure balancing spool.

Just so there is no confusion, I am looking for info regarding a sink faucet not a shower faucet. Does that change things?

    Quite a bit.

Is this a residential or commercial application?

Secondly, are you trying to limit the amount of hot water from the faucet?

    Residential. Only limit if needed.

Generally speaking, temperature limiting/pressure balancing devices are only required on showers in residential applications.

In commercial/public applications, handwashing sinks are required to have devices to limit temperature to 110° max. An additional, overiding factor is if handicapped persons are utilizing the fixture.

A standard Moen lav, or kitchen for that matter, faucet has no temperature limiting capabilities. I know of only a select few lav faucets that have an adjustable handle stop.

Your best bet to achieve limit only function would be a new faucet ( http://www.symmons.com/products/res_...y=4&function=8 ), or adding a standalone mixer (http://www.symmons.com/products/comm...=8&function=19 ) to your existing faucet.
