I'm looking for a water softener for a new lake cabin I'm building. I have had several opinions as to what I need but they all say their system is superior of course. I do not want to spend $4000-6500 on my water for our seasonal vacation property! Here are the test results from an independent lab as required by the state.

0005 BARIUM EQ 0.0373
0010 MANGANESE EQ 0.0404
0015 HARDNESS EQ 239.0000
0016 CONDUCTIVITY EQ 465.0000
0017 TURBIDITY EQ 0.3170
0018 COLOR EQ 5.0000
0021 CHLORIDE EQ 0.8490
0022 SULFATE EQ 13.5000
0023 COPPER EQ 0.0031
0026 TDS-TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS EQ 223.0000
0111 NICKEL EQ 0.0061
0004 ARSENIC LT 0.0030
0006 CADMIUM LT 0.0020
0007 CHROMIUM LT 0.0200
0009 LEAD LT 0.0010
0011 MERCURY LT 0.0004
0012 SELENIUM LT 0.0100
0013 SILVER LT 0.1000
0019 FLUORIDE LT 0.5000
0020 NITRATE-N LT 0.2000
0024 ZINC LT 0.2000
0110 BERYLLIUM LT 0.0008
0112 ANTIMONY LT 0.0060
0113 THALLIUM LT 0.0020
0114 NITRITE-N LT 0.2000
0116 CYANIDE LT 0.0100
0161 TOTAL NITRATE/NITRITE LT 0.5000
(the first 4 digit number is meaningless, just a test id number)

I'm looking to make sure our fixtures don't turn orange and the water is good enough to drink and use as normal. I will install and maintain it all myself so if you have recommendations as to where to purchase etc I am all ears.

More info:
Water line coming in is 1 1/4" PVC and will be going out 3/4" PEX
Have a floor drain within a couple feet of softener location
House is 1800 sq ft with 4 bedrooms
Will mostly be 2-4 people there on weekends in the summer months. 8-10 people occasionally
2 bathrooms - one with shower only and one with a tub /shower/

Thanks in advance for some advice.

That is a weird test; it looks like they did not test for iron. That is the one that turns fixtures orange.

Oops, I forgot to add that, there was another test page from a different lab-

IRON EQ 0.1260
SODIUM EQ 3.0800

The test results look strange. Hardness is a part of the TDS. So normally the TDS would be higher than the hardness but in your case it's the other way around.

Don't know why that is, these are the results from the only major lab around here which were required by and then submitted to the state. I just double checked the numbers and that's what it says on the report.

Where else is a good place to get some advice / purchase? I'd like to get this system figured out and installed soon.

You need a conventional water softener to compensate for 14.5 grains of hardness, and a flow rate sufficient for your use.

Get a Fleck5600SXT or 7000SXT controller with conventional resin. You will get a local plumber to install it. Figure about $300 to install for a regular install. Protect from freezing. Consider a filter housing such as Big Blue if you want to deal with some sediment that you have not characterized yet. You can leave the housing empty initially or pick maybe a 50...5 micron variable filter.

I will message you with one particular source, but there are others.

See http://www.qualitywaterassociates.com/softeners/sizingchart.htm for sizing tips.

I agree with Reach4. All you need is a water softener. Clack and Fleck make systems that will give you years of great service.
