Building a new home in Washington State. The roof has plywood, 3" of foam, plywood and roofing. I would also like to add solar on top.

So my question is: Can I vent out the sides of my home and what is the plumbing code #. My inspector did not know? Or was not sure if it was allowed. (pierce county) Can someone help me, please.

My reasoning is the solar panels in the way, but also I would rather not have holes in the roof with all that foam, my attic is going to be condition with insulation under roof line and if I had a leak it would be years to discover.

The vent needs to extend past the roof about 10"

Do you intend to have any penetrations?
Fireplace chimney
Water heater chimney
Furnace chimney
Roof venting at the peak
Vents for bath fans and laundry fan

Have you talked to the building inspector about all of this?
And unvented roof will rot pretty quickly in Washington. Forget about rainfall, it will rot from humidity.

Thanks for the responds. Do you have a code # by chance so I can show inspector, or a direction where I can locate the Code. No penetration, I am doing a complete condition attic so insulation will be against bottom of plywood. No ducting since I am doing geothermal water radiant floor heat. All vent fans including heat recovery ventilators will be exiting the side of the home.

This is some King County info:

The use of closed cell foam insulation in the attic roof with no soffit, ridge, or eaves vents sounds very shocking. Yet it is becoming popular quickly.

www.seattle.gov/dpd/publications/cam/cam322.pdf? is document by
Seattle discussing this kind of foam in attics.

See "Criteria for Unvented Attic Assemblies" item #3 on page 2, as
well as other info.

Here are some companies in King County area that do it (just search info):
http://www.at-foam.com/

http://www.foamseattle.com

http://www.seattlesprayfoam.com/seattle-closed-cell-open-cell-foam.html

http://www.seattlesprayfoam.com/attic-space-foam-seattle.html says
----------------------------
New Technology Building Science
(Non-Vented Attic Spaces)
In this application, considered the most effective, by most of the
SPF industry, the foam is sprayed directly to the underside of the
roof between the joists, down around the rim and into the soffit
areas, on the gable wall ends, and effectively sealing off and
insulating the entire attic space from any air infiltration.
