So I just got a countyline 3/4 hp submersible pump that I may have to use in a storage tank .I read online that when in an open body of water you need to use a flow inducer sleeve .The temp specs on this countyline is less then 120 f .Does anyone know the best way to construct one of these inducer sleeves or have any info on this subject? This is what I have found on the franklin motor site.

You need to maintain flow around the motor. It looks like it would be easy enough to make one out of a piece of 4" PVC, just like it shows in the picture.

"4 inch pumps" are normally around 3-3/4 inch.

The thinner " PVC pipe with thinner wall ( e.g. SDR 35)" oddly has an ID that differs, but is just under 4 inches. http://www.lowes.com/pd_24140-1814-PVC+30040++0600HC_4294765358__ is an example. http://www.all-about-pipe.com/pvc-pipe-dimensions.html

Schedule 40 is just over 4 inches ID, but has thicker walls. So you would probably need more cuts and firmer clamping.

shows a flow inducer being put on a bigger pump.

http://www.wwpp.co/4-pvc-pump-sleeve.html is an expensive version.

says centering bolts are important. I don't know that they are, but it is not going to hurt if they don't rust.

Actually, 4" pump motors are 3 7/8 inches and they fit perfectly into 4 sch 40 PVC.

Use a piece of 4" PVC a foot longer than the pump and use a 4" abs well seal to make your flow inducer and secure the sleeve to the drop pipe.

Looks like the abs well seal would be the easier way to go no cutting clamping or taping. Thanks guys for the info looks easy enough to do.

Just because it is made for sewer doesn't mean it won't work for potable water.

But slotting, slicing, clamping and taping it to the pump is a 1/2 assed way to do it. Especially when you can make one with an abs seal and a piece of sch 40 for about $20.00
