I have an American Standard Vent-Away toilet that is Rose in color with a seat hinge that is loose. The plastic washer inside the tank under the mounting nut broke in two, letting the hinge woble. As you may have quessed the nut is frozen. Perhaps replacing the seat would be best but I'm unable to locate one. Does any one know a fix for this or a hinge replacement kit.

Thank you!

Try applying penetrating oil to the nut and let it soak for awhile, reapplying oil occasionally. Don't confuse WD40 with penertrating oil, get a small can of true penetrating oil. Don't get in a hurry, give the oil time to work into the corrosion.

vent-away

It's so hard to get in there even when you remove part of the vent-away.

If its a white metal nut and not a plastic nut, then go and buy a new seat. Probably will cost as much as a new white regular toilet.

Try Aerokroil or Marvel Mystery Oil

A good product for this purpose is "Kroil" from Kano Laboratories. They offer an aerosol version, called "Aerokroil", that can be sprayed in almost any direction, and with the help of the extension tube, can reach into very tight places. Even though WD-40 is billed as a penetrating oil, Kroil is thinner and wicks into fastener threads much better. Next-best after Kroil is Marvel Mystery Oil, usually available at auto parts stores and better hardware stores. It may take repeated application over a period of 48 hours to do the trick. If Kroil can't loosen it in 48 hours, then probably nothing can.
