Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a neighbor that I did a double SS basin kitchen sink install for 6 months ago.

She said she noticed a very small drip under one of the basins recently and I confirmed it was from the strainer to pipe nut connection. I redid it and all was good. A week later the same thing but on the other basin.

Now, I never liked the knife like metal threads on the strainers threading on to a plastic nut anyway.

I noticed she dumps big pots of boiling pasta water in the sinks.

My common sense says it could be a problem for the plastic connectors and pipe.

Comments please.

At the risk of offending, you explained your opinion a lot clearer than the problem. You could use brass nuts to the basket strainer rather than plastic. You could use cloth and rubber tailpiece washers instead of flanged plastic ones or, perhaps, your neighbor is smacking the drain with her waste basket or some such thing. I put boiling pasta water down my plastic drain with no problem and haven't heard of that as a problem. I don't think the plastic is the problem.

Unless the drain is backing up, I do not think the plastic would see much of the heat from the water.

I pour boiling hot water down my drain all of the time, And I have the same plastic crap that is made in china.

I have no leaks.

You are old enough to know, If one side leaks, it will not be long before the other side will leak.

Their may be pasta in the trap, It is like Glue.

Have Fun.

Did the problem connection use putty?

Thank you for your kind replies people.

Just needed some worldly input on probable cause and it looks like a consensus.

And I grew up with a bunch of Italian families and never noticed.

Of course there was nothing but soldered lead pipe back then.:D

But just to be on the safe side, I think I'll use metal on metal.
