Default Pipe Strength - For holding stuff up. Bike rack

I've had a hard time figuring out how strong steel pipe is, but perhaps somebody here would know.

I built a little bike rack to hold our bicycles off the floor with 3/4 inch steel pipe. I'm wondering if it'll hold, or not.

If it's not going to hold, what will happen? Will it just bend over time and eventually break, or will it snap violently and send something flying across the room (into somebody's eye...)?

The bikes probably weigh 20-25 pounds each.

Thank you for any input you have.

3/4" is plenty strong, but the worst that would happen is that a thread might snap on an arm and one end of the bikes would drop to the floor.

    That is nice.

It will hold if you do not put on the front tires.

    Nice design, I like it.

Put foam pipe insulation on the pipe to keep from scratching the bikes.

Thank you! We'll hope for the best then.

The foam is a good idea. I was thinking duct tape but that could get sticky someday. If I can find thin insulation that'll be much better.

DonL - I'm pretty sure the pipe won't hold if I ride 'em there... the thing just to the left is the stationary bike.

    Thanks again all.

You did good. Very nice work.

The split insulation is nice. It may be hard to find this time of year.

But it will be cheap after winter is gone.

    Have Fun.
