Around here Downed Power lines are normal during a hurricane.
Normally there will be a Tree across the road that brought the lines down.
Some folks try to remove the trees and get deaded.
It is best to call the power company, not 911.
Last time I had a power problem on my power pole it was Christmas day and the fuse on my pole that feeds it broke, and the wind was making my power go On and Off.
A called the electric company and told them the feed was down, and sparks were flying.
30 min later the tech came out. Freezing his ass off, enjoyed working on Christmas and making OT pay. Very cool Dude.
He replaced the fuse, and I asked if I could have it. He said yes I have no need to keep it. They look small on the pole, but they are giant in your hand. Just like street signal lights.
When they came to replace my meter with a smart meter, I had no luck getting the old one, but I did get its reading. I wanted it just because of the fact that the new one could be turned of remotely, the old one could not. Also wanted its reading.
Everyone needs to watch downed trees, because many times there is a HV wire it that mess. Find another way to get home.
Be careful playing with electricity.

"It is best to call the power company, not 911...."
I agree but did not have their number handy.....now I do.....and will call them first and then 911.
In a freak early season snowfall a few years ago......trees and branches came down everywhere pulling down service drops. I went out side in the storm with a pole and shook the snow off the branches that were still full of leaves.......It saved me.....My next door neighbor lost his service and it took 4 days to get it reconnected.
I lent him my 3500 watt Honda generator and he ran it 3 or 4 days straight......he did buy a portable from me and I brought it home prepped for him....he continued to use mine......!!! He did change the oil and filled it with gas......he's a crotchety old guy and we did not really speak for about 25 years thanks to an episode or two involving our kids and me making to much noise with racecars.......I am a great guy now....LOL.....42 years in the same house....same neighbor...
