See if this thread helps: http://www.terrylove.com/forums/show...flapper-THU096
I have a plastic toilet flapper in an American Standard toilet which pivots on two mounting posts on each side of the overflow pipe in the center of the tank. The pivot arms from the flapper that go around the mounting posts are closed loops and there is no apparent way to detach the flapper from these posts. All the videos on YouTube show easily detachable flappers, different than this one. How do I get this thing off, and then how do I get the same one to replace it back on?
You put a screwdriver and twist it to remove the tilt flush unit. Be VERY careful that you do NOT tilt it too far back or you will snap off the stop which keeps it from tilting 'over center' and create a bigger problem for yourself, because you will have to replace the flush valve if it happens.
