Cool Water Pressure and High Pitch Noise

Hello all, I recently moved into a new house and have been experiencing problems with my showers. I have 2 showers, both equipped with Moen, both shower/tub combos. It's a single valve that controls both hot and cold. When I have the tub running everything seems fine, when I lift the valve on the diverter to shower, a high pitch noise appears. I have replaced the shower heads, but no luck. I removed the diverter spout and replaced the washer inside, and no luck. When the high pitch noise occurs, if I flush the toilet, the noise goes away. At first thought, I would think I was getting too much pressure through the shower head, but the problem is, I hardly have any pressure at all. I don't know if this is relevant, but I have a water softener. I barely have enough pressure for a steady flow to come out of the shower head. When I flush the toilet, the pressure drops even more and the water almost falls to the floor instead of spraying. What do you suggest for me to get rid of this noise? This same thing happens on both showers. Are the diverters bad on both showers? Or do I need to find a low-pressure shower head? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I suggest you get a Delta pull-down diverter faucet. It will leak much less, giving more water for the shower. I don't know if it will help your noise, but I suspect it will. The metal ones are better than the plastic, and the ones discussed below are metal.

This is often a diverter spout issue. The Delta ones mentioned seem to work pretty well, and are available in several finishes and styles, but any other new one should probably work. The seat where the washer goes is likely pitted, so a new washer may not help on the one you have.

Thank you for the speedy replies! I will try the pull down diverters and update if it helps at all.
