Hello,
I have an Empire gas heater (stand alone unit). There is an aluminum fitting that is about 1.5" below the real pilot orifice. There is a machine made (not corrosion made) hole in the fitting. The fitting is part of the pilot gas supply tube. This hole in this fitting is emitting gas and lighting (acting like a second pilot).
Is this hole serving some purpose and why is it lighting? One theory I have is that not enough gas is getting to the real pilot orifice, but I still don't know the function of the opening.
Thanks for any insight.
