    Just my opinion, That system should have shut down before icing up that way.

    Most systems look at High Pressure for safety cutoff, But if it is low on refrigerant it can run forever, and is very well Cooled.


    Hope to hear a report soon.

    Yeah. This is why I like some of the 'higher end" systems. They have more types of protection for the compressor. The problem is that most home owners don't know about these details. Best thing is try to get a system that meets your needs (SEER, 1 or 2 stage, etc.) and then look at the types of protection is has for the compressor and look at cost last. It might only be a slight bump in price to go from a base model unit to something that has better protection(such as high pressure, low pressure, and thermal limits). The next step up usually has a better SEER and other features as well.

    If you burn up the compressor (even if the part is under warranty), you still won't like the bill if you are paying for labor.
