Is is likely or even possible for scorpions to enter buildings through drains?

Depends what movie you watched.

The snakes scare me when they come up in the toilet.

Guess they are going after the scorpions, and mice.

There are scorpions and there are SCORPIONS!

I lived in Arizona for 8 years and the average scorpion is small enough to go just about anywhere and I did have them, as well as a bunch of other creepy-crawly guys, come up through the drains.

It's a favorite expressway for cockroaches also.

If that's true I need to ask where to find drain strainers fine enough to exclude such critters. Any ideas?

I am not sure they come up from the drain, They most likely get into the house by other means and just go into the drain to hide and drink water.

Wal-mart has drain covers to keep Hair out, they should work fine.

Good Luck. Sweet Dreams.

Stopping hair is a bit too fine - I just want to stop scorpions. The existing drain is 4-1/4" diameter with 2 screws about 2-5/8" OC.

Moen makes some drain strainers that may work for you.

Or you could make your own using stainless screen.

Moen's don't look fine enough to stop a small, say 1" long scorpion. Maybe I could put the SS screen under the existing strainer.
