Hi All,

It has been a while. I have a commercial boiler with a 120 gallon hot water storage tank on a recirculation pump. The boiler is 20 years old and I want to retrofit a high efficiency (Navien) tankless water heater.

My concern is with the water supply pipe sizes, which need to be 3/4 inch going into and out of the tankless unit. Currently, I have a 1 1/2 inch copper cold water supply line feeding into the boiler, but just before it enter s the water heater, the copper pipe transitions to 2 inch. All the pipe on the recirculation loop is 2 inch. Then the hot water line leaving the storage tank goes back to 1 1/2 inch.

So, in order to tie the new water heater into the system, I have to use 2" to 3/4" reducers going into and out of the Tankless unit. Will going from such a large diameter pipe to such a small diameter pipe cause me problems?

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
