Hello, new here w/ a pump questionn....

I have friends who shocked their well with bleach over the weekend. They are turning on the hose to clear the system but are afraid to run the pump too long thinking it may burn up. They are running the hose in 1-2 hr. spurts then letting the pump recover for a few hours. I'm afraid this will take too long to clear the system and the bleach sitting in the well will damage metal parts. How long can the pump be safely run at one time? Any help will be appreciated.

It doesnt hurt a pump to run constantly. It is when they short cycle that burns them up.

The pump is made to run non-stop, as long as the well has enough water in it.

The problem is one hose might not be enough to keep the pump running. If the one hose is causing the pump to cycle on and off, that is not good for the pump and you are not getting the well pumped out as you should. Run enough hoses to keep the pressure low as possible. At least enough hoses to keep it from getting to 60 and shutting off. Running constantly for hours, days, weeks, months, and even years is good for the pump. Cycling on and off constantly while running only one hose for a couple of hours can do a lot of damage to the pump/motor.
