    Default Pump starter relay

Just replaced 1.5hp flotec pump with 2.0 hp, but now can't get relay to start pump. It clicks, and my meter shows I'm getting 120 v at the pump, but pump won't come on. Checked my 20 year old starter relay and noticed it was only rated for 1 hp at 120v ( although it's worked great with the 1.5 hp pump). I'm guessing I need a new relay rated for 2 hp at 120v, but don't want to spend the money if this isn't the most probable problem. Any suggestions? Pump comes on when I plug extension cord direct to it. Thanks

Not enough information to make an accurate diagnosis but I suspect that your 1.5 and 2 hp pump needs 220 volts to work best. Is this a jet or submersible pump?

2 HP pump should be wired for 240, not 120.

When you say Pump starter relay, are you talking about the pressure switch ?

If you have 120 going to the pump and the pump won't run then you either have no connection at the pump or the pump is bad out of the box. Either way, the pump need to come out again
[B]No, plumbing ain't rocket science. Unlike rocket science, plumbing requires a license[B]

If it is a Jet pump, that is what I was thinking it was, Someone may have forgot to set the voltage. But it was said that it works on a extension cord. ??

A 2 HP pump should be on 240, That is what I would use.

Not that 120 wont work with bigger wire, 240 will work more better. Some 2 HP pumps will not even have a 120V setting. (The Good ones don't, or they are not really 2 HP, People like big numbers.)

I also would not use a 1 HP control for a 2 HP pump, That is asking for trouble.

    More details would be nice.

PS. I like your tag line, actually rocket science requires many licenses, Thanks to ISO and OSHA.
