My shallow well pump is LOUD - house is only 600 square feet, but you can hear it. Definitely on the way out. What are some good replacement models? burcam any good? I've read Goulds is the best but can't find them locally in Ottawa.

Anyone familiar with bur-cam? comparable price wise, Canadian company. Stainless steel.

There isn’t a nickels worth of difference between most pumps these days. It is the little “tankless”, pressure on/flow off controller that is the problem. These things are marketed under several different names, and every few years they change the name again. I started seeing them many years ago as Masscontrols or Presscontrols. Now many pump companies sell a version of that device. If you want something that doesn’t last, is hard on pumps, and needs to be replaced regularly, then get what all the pump companies are pushing. That would either be the Burcam, “Masscontrol”, or a variable speed (VFD) system. If you want a pump system that will last, which is why pump manufacturers don’t like them, use a Cycle Stop Valve or a Pside-Kick kit instead of the Burcam thing.

Did a bit of quick reading - sounds very interesting. The CSV is expensive but I'm intriqued. However, I'll still need a pump of some sorts, correct? Need to get that water out of my well somehow.

Stainless steel ? For a shallow well pump ? What part is stainless, the washers and bolts ?

What is the model ? Do you have a link to it ?

Is your pump in the well ?

$299 for a pump. The Pside-Kick kit is $399. That is not expensive compared to buying a big pressure tank to limit the pump cycling. Those tankless things have been around for a long time, and they work pretty good until you need a tank. A small leak or a running toilet can cause those tankless controllers to quickly cycle a pump to death. With a CSV you don't need a very large tank. But the 4.5 gallon size tank holds 1 gallon of water, which is very important if you have a small leak or two. Pumps are not expensive unless you have to buy a new one every couple of years. Which is the reason so many pump companies are selling that tankless controller instead of something that could make pumps last 20 years.

He needs a pump. Not sure on how we got to controllers and CSV's the Goulds J5s is just a standard cast iron jet pump. Doesn't come with a controller and you can even get it without the pressure switch if you want. I'm not familiar with burcam pumps but the picture looks good and so do the specs. If the warranty is good and the price is right I suppose I would probably go with it.

That is about all you can go by now a days.

Then just hope it lasts.

Them cast iron pumps are worth rebuilding, but I think the plastic ones are junk and disposable.
