Pull strength is only important related to the tile weight since you aren't going to be able to grab the tile and pull.

FWIW, thinset does not stick to the top side of Ditra - it gets locked in place by the reverse tapered holes (it does get embedded in the fleece on the bottom, though)...plus, not sure why you are mixing your thinset at +20%, if I understand your descriptions. Since Ditra is designed only as a floor membrane, shear is pretty much irrelevant.

The important part of this is that the system must support the tile on the wall or floor. For practical purposes, how much is enough? On an average sized tile, say a 6x6, the spec calls for a minimum of 50psi, so that's 36X50 or 1800#. The only time this becomes a practical matter is if the tile is not installed properly without the requisite expansion provisions...then, it's not the membrane or tile's fault, it's the installers. There's no tile out there that would stress the system to actually hold it from gravity. You are NOT going to pull the tile out unless trying to, and then, it may be tedious. For say a remodel, higher strengths may be a disadvantage when trying to remove it.

I think from a practical understanding, though, it's illustrative that a dryset mortar is perfectly fine to hold pretty much any tile up when using a membrane, as the membrane itself will likely fail before the thinset. And, when using a waterproof membrane and an unmodified thinset properly mixed, it should achieve its maximum strength because it holds the moisture in to aid the cement for the strongest cure possible. Excess moisture may ultimately weaken it, though.

    It's interesting, though...
