    Valveman, interesting that you say the air doesn't get absorbed in the risers. I would think the riser would be like a small hydro pneumatic tank and it would absorb the air pocket.

    With a riser, the water doesn't flow in one side and out the other like it does in a hydro tank. Risers tend to accumulate air like the high spots in an irrigation line.

    Maybe if you're on a well system you might have a lot of entrained air in your water, but a typical municipal pumped system does not have much air in it, and the water sloshing into the riser is MUCH more likely to absorb air than to leave some there! There's a good reason why engineered arresters were designed...they work if they're in the right position and sized properly for a long time.
